Trulli Tales

Animated series about children cooking with a magical cookbook.

Trulli Tales (full title *Trulli Tales: The Adventures of Trullalleri*) is an animated children’s show created by Maria Elena and Fiorella Congedo. It debuted on 17 October 2017 on Brazil’s Gloobinho channel. The story takes place in the fictional land of Trullalleri (also called Trulliland), designed to resemble the real Italian town of Alberobello. The plot centers on four children and their teacher, who learn to cook from an old magical cookbook left by Grandma Trulli. When the villain Copperpot tries to steal the book, the kids—Ring, Zip, Stella, and Sun—use the magical powers of their wands to stop him.

The main characters include Sun, a determined and intelligent tomboy who handles the cooking and uses a spoon-shaped wand to control temperatures; Ring, the kind but slightly vain leader who picks ingredients and wields a fork that acts as a magnet; Zip, a funny but sometimes moody sportsman who chops and blends ingredients with a whisk wand that creates wind; and Stella, a sweet but distracted decorator who uses a spatula wand to garnish dishes. Miss Frisella, the bakery owner, keeps the Magic Cookbook and later takes on the alias Trullifairy in Season 2. Grandma Trulli, who created the book, guides the kids with riddles.

The main villain is Copperpot, a boastful genius who constantly tries to steal the cookbook. It is later revealed he wants it to free his ancestor Copperpan, trapped inside. His pet owl is Athenina, and his nephew Poppy appears in Season 2. Recurring characters include Terry the spider and Lu the snail, who appear at the start and end of each episode, and the Trulli King, a ruler with a collection of donkey antiques.

Production involved Fandango TV, Congedo CulturArte, and Rai Fiction in Italy; Gaumont Animation in France; and PVP Media in Canada. Gaumont and PVP formed a co-production deal for this series alongside *Belle and Sebastian* in 2015. The show was inspired by a book published by Congedo. It was commissioned by Disney for its Disney Junior channels in the EMEA region, as well as by Rai Fiction for Italy’s Rai YoYo, Ici Radio-Canada Télé in Canada, and Globosat’s Gloobinho in Brazil. Boat Rocker Media handles consumer products in the UK, while Gaumont distributes seasons 1 and 2 worldwide, and PVP Distribution handles season 1 in Canada.
